ComBioCat group

Coordination compounds with biological and catalytic activity group

About

The group's activity falls into two main lines: the biological activity of coordination compounds and their catalytic properties. Within the biological activity the current interest is directed towards the synthesis of compounds with antimicrobial and antitumour activity and the structure-activity study, as well as the interaction of the complexes with their biological targets. As for catalytic activity, it is currently focused on the synthesis and characterisation of Au(I), Ni(II), Pd(II) and Rh(I) complexes with chiral organic ligands, the heterogenisation of these complexes on microporous materials such as zeolites and MOFs and the preparation of uni- and multi-functional catalysts to be evaluated in both homogeneous and heterogeneous phases. In addition, the group is working on new experimental techniques for the assembly of functional materials with advanced applications in micro- and nanoelectronics, biosensors, molecular imaging and drug delivery.
